What is the Family Campaign?

The Family Campaign is an opportunity for families to financially support the program activities so beneficial to all the girls in their lives. A major focus of the Family Campaign is to raise awareness of the critical need for financial support of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.

Where does the money go?

100% of your gift will go to Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. It is used for girl resources (financial assistance such as program assistance grants, day and resident camp subsidies, council publications and materials, equipment and badge kit loans and council-wide program events); adult resources (financial assistance, council publications, training materials, and library lending); and council properties, including ten council owned camps (maintenance and improvements). Funds are used for girls throughout our membership area.

Your donation will help fund over 300 council activities, 50 camp sessions, 300 program assistance grants, and membership fees. Even though members often pay a fee for their daughters to participate in activities, that fee only covers a small portion of the actual cost.

When does the Family Campaign happen?

Gifts to the 2010 Family Campaign can be made throughout the calendar year (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31), but the main focus of the campaign is during early bird registration in the spring and regular registration in the fall.

How do I make a donation?

The primary way to make a donation is through the Family Campaign form included with all registration packets. Forms can be filled out by parents and turned in directly to troop leaders or registrars. Donations can also be made on the membership form or can be mailed to the council office. Donations can be made via cash, check, or credit card. You can also call the development department directly at 317.924.6841 to make a donation.

What do I get for my donation?

A donation of $25 or more will qualify each Girl Scout (girl members only) in your household for the 2010 Family Campaign patch, which will include the caterpillar head portion of the patch (for those who didn't receive one in 2008) and the 2010 body segment. Make sure you indicate on your donation form how many you need. Patches will be mailed to you.

What about the membership fee? Doesn't that go to the council?

Your $12 membership fee goes to the Girl Scouts of the USA. Our local council does not keep any of that money.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. You will receive a thank you letter/gift receipt in the mail after you make your gift that can be used for tax purposes.

I support the Girl Scout Cookie Program, isn't that enough?

Cookies and Fall Product Sale provide an educational experience for our girls as well as income for the council. However, the total council budget is approximately 10 million dollars, and product sales alone is not enough to cover that. Adult generated funds (as opposed to product sales, which are girl generated funds) help make up the remainder of the council budget.

How much does it costs to provide Girl Scouts to one girl for one year?

It costs an average of $214 per year to provide a girl with a year of Girl Scouting.
